Ray Beh, Founder | Frambie

Always wanted to create a simple yet stunning wall art? Sometimes you don’t have to print and you can always do it yourself without huge expense. This article will be showing you how to create a beautiful abstract wall art for your living room, kitchen, or bedroom by using only 4 simple tools. Here are the tools you’ll need;

  1. Blank Canvas
  2. Adhesive Tape (0.5 – 1cm)
  3. Oil Paint
  4. Paintbrush

Step 1: Working Space & Taping

First, lay down your canvas on a flat surface. The size of the canvas can vary depending on the space of your wall or the size of the wall art you wish to create. Then, randomly tie the adhesive tape on the canvas. There is no specific shape or design needed to create an abstract wall decoration. Make sure the adhesive tape is pressed firmly against your canvas. This is important for creating the lines in the painting.

Step 2: Paint, Paint, Paint

Once finished applying adhesive tape, you’ll be able to produce a randomized patterns of strings on your canvas. Here comes the most difficult part: painting. Before painting, make sure the surface of the canvas is clean and smooth without any sands on it. Otherwise, the color may turn out uneven. By using your paintbrush, gently paint all over the canvas with the desired color. Make sure you are clear with the colors and the space to paint too.

After that, you may put the canvas under the sun for an hour to allow it to dry. Again, please make sure that the surface is free from any sand or gravel as the paint is still wet.

Step 3: Remove The Tape

Finally, detach the adhesive tape from your canvas. You’ll be able to see the beautiful patterns contrasting the color of your paint. Add a hook at the back of your canvas and hang it on the wall to showcase your beautifully created wall décor.

Extra Tips

i. This tutorial was created for interior with red color scheme. You can change the color of the paint based on the interior color scheme you use. If your room is using blue color as main color, you may consider using blue color paint, so that it match to the color scheme and bring out the best visual sensation.

ii. Make sure the adhesive tape is strong enough to cover the canvas surface. I would recommend using high concentration any oil paint to avoid the liquid flowing into inside the taping area.

iii. Your canvas is white. Therefore, you should choose medium to dark color for painting. The contract between the line and painting area will make the artwork more stunning.
